what i wore #6: september 29

ck men’s white v-neck, bershka jeans, peace sign necklace, black high tops.

a really simple outfit, but proof i wear pants! that day castles and i (along with a few other folks) made some speeches and did some readings; we all had flowers as a sort of solidarity/symbolic thing for the audience.

sorry about the lateness of this one and the general lack of w-i-w’s around here lately— i know a lot of you guys are following me for them. i’ve been so busy lately, and computer stuff (i color these all digitally) is a bit inconvenient.

what i wore #4 & #5: september 26th and 28th

both days: bcbg mustard-colored cardigan, black silk-esque dress with rosettes, brown leather heels.

26th: deep blue stockings, high-waist denim skirt (over dress).

28th: maroon tights (black bow details).

this is what-i-wore… BUDGET EDITION! but seriously, i’m posting this to show that style does not require massive amounts of clothing. my dinner party outfit gives a completely different impression from the school one— and the difference lies in just three things (two of which are stockings). shirts get dirty, but pants and dresses (especially if you’re just sitting around) can last a few wears or so. if you’re not going to see the same people again— recycle!

and another important thing: i save my money for quality stuff. yes, i live for sales and i usually don’t buy anything full price, but what i do buy is good, interesting, functional clothing that i can wear in a variety of ways. thrift! :D

what i wore #3: september 24

thrifted red silk dress, xxi shorts, moth cardigan, vaguely opaque stockings, my mum’s brown leather t-strap heels.

a story about the dress: it’s very odd fitting; tight along the neck and the shoulders. i got it for $4.50 at crossroads in SE portland— i think it was so cheap ‘cause no one else could fit in it. my mum and i are guessing it was a kid’s dress way back when. but it’s such a pretty color and fabric; i really don’t mind the fit.

what i wore #2: september 23

my mum’s wooden peace sign necklace (practically mine now), impractical bcbg mustard-colored cardigan, worn-out green flats, too-short purple high-waist dress, pyramid stud leggings, ginormous yellow watch.

maybe i should start calling these what i wore yesterday— although hopefully i can get today’s up tonight.

what i wore #1: september 22nd (yesterday)

my brother’s grey dkny tee, ittybitty purple shorts from xxi, beaded sandals, and my ginormous thrifted yellow watch.

so this is fun. i actually liked doing the lineart best; i’m not so much a fan of the color. then again this was a pretty quick-and-dirty job… maybe the next one will be better.

dread— finally completed after what, four weeks?

media: gimp 2.6.6 & wacom tablet, plus some stock paper texture. i really need to upgrade my software, but gimp has been good to me.

i really think there’s some truth to the names. while i was working on doubt, i kept wondering if i was doing it properly and hoping the concept would look right— i, yes, doubted whether it would turn out well. i was also working in gimp 2.6.6 for the first time, so it was a rather interesting business.

and then as far as dread goes… well, if you look at the process stuff, i had it almost completely done about three weeks ago, and then… i didn’t finish it till now. yep. i dreaded finishing it.

the proof is in the pudding! or… something like that. anyway. hope you guys like it; i’m pretty proud. it’s a little on the dark side, which is a bit annoying, but gimp kept crashing when i tried to adjust the tone…

i posted this somewhat recently, buuuut i still think it’s somewhat humorous. at least tyler might get a kick out of it. WHATCHA GONNA DO?

so i had a midnight revelation: hair is hard to draw, but clothes are even harder. my goodness i cannot get the shading to look right.

with that, letting dread sit for a little while longer because i’m tired. (could probably make a joke here about how i’m dreading finishing dread, but i won’t— oh wait, i just did) and you guys get to see more process! in closeup!

i put an eensy bit more detail into her face— profiles are hard cause they’re so flat— and fixed her back, as well as finishing up her masses and masses of gravity-defying hair.

not bad for a midnight doodle. why didn’t doubt give me this trouble? anyway, good night for real.

dread, work in progress. apparently i simply cannot stop painting today. (well, yesterday and very early today?)

listening to death cab; tabletting away. i’ll probably stop at this point— hair is always the hardest part. by the by, is anyone actually interested in these process shots, and if so, should i do them for traditional media as well?

so i finished doubt a lot faster than i anticipated. i like the result; i used a little old paper texture to liven it up— digital painting tends to be too smooth for my liking.

(cue cheering, applause) i sketched this a few nights ago, along with another on the same theme, and since i’ve got a few hours to spare today i decided to paint it. i’m working in gimp, which is not my medium of choice, but it’s fun to play around with a different program for a change. i haven’t done digital painting for a couple months, either.

so i’ll probably be done with this by tonight or maybe tomorrow. i like it so far.

okay, this is rather silly. but i’ve noticed a trend in tumblr/design-land: helvetica = sexy. sexy in a typographical sense, that is. and uhhh… i’m a huge typography geek, and i find that horribly amusing. so. i made this. it probably doesn’t make sense, but at least it’s good design. :D
